Actor Sonu Sood has turned producer with his latest venture 'Tutak Tutak Tutiya', a trilingual project in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu which is scheduled to hit the screens on October 7. The actor says he has been an integral part in the making of the project. He has also been travelling a great deal to promote the project. The film reinforces the importance of relationships in modern times. In a chat with Nina C George, the actor shares the experience of working in his first production.
What is 'Tutak Tutak Tutiya' about?
The film has mystery, fun and loads of entertainment. I don't want to give away too many details but I am sure people will connect to the characters in the film.
On blending horror and comedy…
'Comedy-horror' is a safe genre and indeed very entertaining. There's a lot that one can expect from this combination. I have seen the earlier works of director A L Vijay and I am impressed with what he has come up in 'Tutak Tutak Tutiya'. It's always interesting to work with actors and technicians down South.
You are turning producer with 'Tutak Tutak Tutiya'…
Yes, the movie is being produced under my father's banner Shakti Sagar Productions. I wanted to make something in his name, so this project is definitely special for me.
Balancing acting and production...
As an actor, you just need to wear your makeup and give your shot. But as a producer, you need to make sure everything is in place. I had to ensure that even the smallest detail wasn't missed. I've worked on every aspect, including the music. I sat in the studios and chose the music for some of the songs.
You have also sung…
I've tried my hand at acting, singing and production. I've sung two songs, 'Love the way you dance' and the title track of the movie. It started off as an experiment but the director liked it so much that we have retained it. I realised that I am not a bad singer after all.
How has Jackie Chan contributed to the project?
I was earlier shooting with Jackie Chan for a movie when I expressed my desire to venture into production. He encouraged me to go ahead but cautioned me that I need to be careful while budgeting as overenthusiasm can lead to exceeding of the budget, which is unnecessary. Jackie Chan works very hard and I learnt a lot just by watching him go about his business.
On Shah Rukh Khan lending his voice for the trailer...
It was indeed special to have Shah Rukh Khan narrate the trailer. He was shooting in Prague when I approached him to do it. He was kind enough to do the narration after a late night shoot and promptly sent it to us. He introduced each of the actors in his unique style. Those introductory lines were written by me.
How was it working with Prabhu Deva and Tamannaah Bhatia?
I've worked with Prabhu before and admire his dedication. He is a very grounded person and someone who is open to improvisation. I am glad he has begun acting. It was long overdue. Tamannaah is a very hardworking person and is focussed on the task at hand.
You've gone all out to promote the film…
A lot of people told me that I am promoting 'Tutak…' the way Shah Rukh Khan promotes his movies. We've worked really hard on the project and I want it to reach everybody. We've gone all out to promote it.
