Films happened by chance for Sandalwood actor Krishi Thapanda. After the release of her movie 'Akira', the actor is excited about her latest film 'Kahi', which will hit screens on
November 4. In an interview with TiniSara Anien, the actor talks about her upcoming projects and thoughts about the industry.

How did movies happen?

I had not even dreamt of entering into films. I never thought of becoming an actor. I was working as an assistant manager in an MNC and never thought of quitting. So much so that even when I was shooting for 'Kahi', I was still working because I wasn't sure about how the industry would accept me. None of my friends or family members were even remotely connected to the industry, so I didn't know what to expect. But after 'Akira' happened, I quit my desk job.

Your experience of working in 'Kahi'...

The director met me and briefed me about the script. I wasn't sure how to go about it but I took it up anyway. It's after I started working on the project that I realised this is what I wanted to do and that this was my life. I have a very deglamourised mature look of a middle-class woman who is a montessori teacher and a writer. I do not have any makeup on and the role is of an average urban woman.

What was the biggest challenge that you faced in the movie?

In 'Kahi', there are not many lines which was a big challenge for me. A lot had to be expressed through the eyes and I didn't know how to do this. I would continually keep askingthe director, Arvind Shastry, to give me some lines. It was a pathbreaking experience and it is after this that I realised that I was made for the film industry.

The movie will be released soon. Are you more excited or nervous?

I have two releases coming up and I'm really excited about November. 'Kahi' will release on November 4 and by the month end, 'Eradu Kanasu' opposite Vijay Raghavendra will come out. The two movies will see me in extremely different roles and the audience is bound to be impressed by the different characters that I play. I play a bubbly reporter in 'Eradu Kanasu' which is a livelier role compared to the one in 'Kahi'.

The kind of roles you would want to be seen in...

Every movie that I am doing is different from the other. 'Akira' saw a very stylish version of me, while 'Kahi' will see me in a no-makeup role. I'm shooting for 'Alpa Virama' with Kishor of 'Kabali' fame, where I will be seen in five different shades. I also play different roles in the movie 'Kannadakagi Ondannu Othi', which I'm shooting for presently. I'm concentrating on characters through which I have realised what I am
capable of and I have started loving the field more and more by the day.

How accepting do you think the industry is now?

There are a lot of movies in various subjects that are coming out now. Earlier, only star oriented films would come out and be viewed by the audience. The industry has changed a lot. The audience has changed as well and the perspective about movies has also transformed accordingly. Films happened by chance for Sandalwood actor Krishi Thapanda.
