Fashionable plunges of Arkavathy

River Arkavathy's fashionable plunges within a panoramic rocky terrain make up the Chunchi Falls, a dear choice for a day's outing. And the treat begins with the journey itself. From Bengaluru, the falls, in Kanakapura taluk, is an estimate of 80 km away. Two main waterfalls are the attractions here, especially during the monsoons. The bigger one cascades from a height of 300 feet. The smaller one flows weakly over boulders and forms a dark-green water bowl ridden with copious moss, before flowing towards a gorge.

Despite the slippery rock-bed, the pond-of-a-kind remains a favourite spot for visitors to take a quick dip in and cool off.

But near the bigger falls, "there are 18 picnic spots for friends and family to have a great time; they're safe and each an oasis; no disturbance or nuisance," says Mutthuraju, a self-appointed guide, who comes from the nearby Chunchi Colony. He is seen helping two visitors who have sought him after they drew his reference from YouTube. "I make sure of people's safety here as there are no strict rules enforced by any authority. I want them to have a good time and go back with good memories. I've been doing this since I was 14 years old. I earn from this, too," he says. Chunchi Falls is perhaps the adventure tale River Arkavathy will tell River Cauvery when they meet at a short distance from here.
