Actor Nikhila Suman is a familiar face on the small screen and stage. The actor, who also made her entry in films with 'Nan Life Alli', will be soon in the film 'Srinivasa Kalyana'. In a tete-a-tete with TiniSara Anien, Nikhila sheds light on her role and the project.
How was the experience of working in 'Nan Life Alli'?
It was my first movie and though I have been acting in TV serials for the past seven years, it was a different experience. The movie wasn't a big hit, but I learnt a lot from the project. I have always been in theatre and on the small screen. Movies were something I wanted to explore.
How does acting in theatre, television and movies differ?
It really doesn't matter for an actor, but they are all unique platforms. The energy in the theatre differs from that on a set. Television and theatre are more colourful but theatre has always been more satisfying for me. There might not always be good money involved in theatre, but theatre has the ability to keep one alive. One has to feel the character one portrays for two hours, even if they want to or not.
How did 'Srinivasa Kalyana' happen?
A friend of mine asked me to audition for the movie. Director and co-actor M G Srinivas asked me to enact a scene. He didn't tell me anything about the role or what happens in the movie before or after my character appears. I did so and then he directed me with some changes. He let me do what I wanted.I found this approach to acting very encouraging. And the movie happened.
How was the whole experience?
It is a small budget film. I found everyone on the set very friendly. From the lightboy and the cameraman to the director, there were no difference. We would sit together and eat. Everyone was like a family and though it's been almost two years, we continue to be good friends. Everybody put their soul into the project and we are all looking forward to it releasing.
Your chemistry with M G Srinivas?
M G Srinivas is a great guy to work with. He is very open to inputs from others and even if he has a different plan for a scene, he values another person's feedback and ideas. We used to discuss openly about the script.
How close are you to your character?
I won't say that it is a bubbly and nice character, but it was close to me. I play a girl with a carefree attitude and I am closely connected to it.
Are you excited or nervous?
Excited is the word. The team and I have waited for a long while for this project to release and I'm sure it will click with he audience. The storyline was impressive and we are looking forward to the viewers accepting it.
