St Joseph's College of Commerce (Autonomous) in association with the Federation of Karnataka Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FKCCI) conducted an international seminar on the topic 'India- An Incredible Business and Investment Destination' — A Myth or Reality' recently.

The inauguration saw eminent personalities from the field of commerce like MC Dinesh, president of the FKCCI and Shashidhar, chairman, FKCCI. The keynote speaker was N Parthasarathy, secretary general of FKCCI. The Foreign Consular General of Israel to India, Yael Hashavit, spoke about how a strong partnership can be forged between the startup capital of the world, Israel, and India.

The other dignitaries present were Daniel Fernandes, SJ, principal of SJCC; and Anthony Joseph, rector vice-president of Bangalore Jesuit Educational Society. Anthony Joseph and Yael Hashavit released the compendium consisting of 18 research papers written by various individuals and experts from the industry.

The seminar saw participation of more than 150 students, academicians, corporate delegates and research scholars, including, international participants from countries like Afghanistan, South Korea, UK, Uganda, Nepal and Ivory Coast.

The inauguration session concluded with the vote of thanks by Raj Sadhwani, HOD, BBA Department of SJCC.

The first session was a panel discussion based on startup India, moderated by Uma Reddy, chairperson of FKCCI. The panelists included Sandeep Singh, software developer for Samsung Technologies; Jacob Crasta, the founder of 'Envirosystem Pvt. Ltd', and Ankur Bhasin, the founder of 'Bhasinsoft India'. Each panelist spoke about their experience as an entrepreneur and the startup culture followed in India. It was followed by a session where participants got a chance to interact with the panelists.

The paper presentation was moderated by Lily David and Raja Jebsingh.
The participants through their presentations gave their insights on the topic of the seminar.

The main topics covered were rural marketing, public policies for growth, business tourism, human resource management, Indian startups, behavioural finance, etc.
It threw light on the problems faced by our country and the various policies of the government.

There was also a session on 'India as an Investment Destination - 2020 Challenges Opportunities and Possible Scenarios'.

It was presided by Rajaram, a psychologist and head of the English Department with over two decades of teaching experience. Participants were divided into 12 groups and had a round table discussion with one or two members speaking about their findings on stage.

The valedictory ceremony, included presenting the delegates with certificates
and mementos, a presentation of a summarised report of the day's proceedings and
a short speech by K Ravi, the senior vice president of FKCCI.
