Food brings in a nostalgia like none other and when some of the items that you had in the yesteryears are available in the city, all you feel like doing is relishing those goodies over and over again. Items like 'Nutties', 'jujubes' and 'Phantom sweet cigarettes' are back to surprise people once again.
Says Dev B K, a fond lover of Cadbury's Nutties, "I did buy two packs of Cadbury Nutties in full excitement to revisit that era but was hit hard with disappointment as it was just a chunk of caramel which was coated with glazed chocolate. It tasted way too sweet than it was with no nut or any nutty flavour in it! I spit it right there and the other unopened pack has been in the refrigerator since last 3 months!
He wasn't too pleased with the flavour but was able to go a step closer to his childhood memories.
Similarly, Nikhil Kumar also goes down memory lane as he speaks about his bond with some special food items. He says, "A fistful of sweets cost 10 paise for us. Things like Poppins and Nutties were luxury treats. We only had these occasionally.
However, he doesn't mind having some of these occasionally now as and when he is able to spot some of them in stores.
For Nagananda Srikakula, there are many dishes that strike a chord of nostalgia. And it's not just these sweets and savouries that he talks about with a smile on his face but also the many other homemade items that he remembers having from time to time. He takes a walk down memory lane as he says, "I remember having jujubes, Poppins, orange drops, rose peppermints, almond sticks and stick jaws. These were available in plenty and once in a while, I do have some of these things that are available close to my house."
